Jason Isbell’s “The Nashville Sound” Lands at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums Chart

Almost two years after debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart with Something More Than Free, Jason Isbell has done it again.

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit’s new album, The Nashville Sound, is No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart this week, selling 54,000 equivalent albums (51,000 in pure sales), according to Nielsen Music. Jason’s latest effort bests the 46,000 units Something More Than Free moved in its first week in August 2015.

The Nashville Sound also debuted at No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard 200.

The new 10-song offering addresses a range of real-life subjects, including politics and cultural privilege (“White Man’s World”), longing nostalgia (“The Last of My Kind”), love and mortality (“If We Were Vampires”), the toxic effect of today’s pressures (“Anxiety”), the remnants of a break-up (“Chaos and Clothes”) and finding hope (“Something to Love”).

The new studio album reunited Jason will his band, the 400 Unit (Derry deBorja, Chad Gamble, Jimbo Hart, Amanda Shires and Sadler Vaden), for their first project together since 2011’s Here We Rest. Dave Cobb, who produced Jason’s previous albums Southeastern (2013) and Something More Than Free (2015), also helmed The Nashville Sound.
